More Search Engine Variants?! Rice and Lights Out….

And we thought that there could be nothing after Google… Well think again;

Hoongle is a Google based search engine that donates 20 grains of rice for each search. At the clip I’m going tonight, I’d have probably fed a small village.

This is a brilliant (yes it’s getting late) idea. By simply creating a dark search screen, we can reduce screen power consumption and therefore save energy. Please note that this doesn’t work on all screen types as Bryan S pointed out (no CRT green credits for you!) – one more reason to drop kick those CRT screen anchor weights and move to LCD flat screens.

As no issue is ever clearly black of white, read through this discourse to see whether this is the real deal or not:

One thing is sure and tested by yours truly: Turn off your screens, they consume far more energy than your computers. Try this on a battery backup – keep screen and computer and just the computer running without the screen on. The difference is astounding. Ergo, screens consume much more power, shorten your screen sleep modes and you can keep your computer from going to sleep for longer AND save energy.
